Massage, Myofascial, and Reflexology

Massage Therapy:

Can be used to address specific conditions in chronic and acute stages of many injuries and illnesses. It is particularly effective in maintaining overall health and balance physically and mentally, as well as playing a tremendous role in preventative measure for symptoms brought on by stress and repetitive strain. Massage can help to increase circulation and lymphatic drainage, improve tissue health, decrease stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia, decrease restriction and adhesions, and improve the immune system.

Myofascial Release:

Fascia is connective tissue located throughout the entire body, surrounding all organs, muscles, and bones. It works as a sort of ‘netting’ that keeps everything in place and gives your body shape and form. Fascia can become tight and immobile from various factors including dehydration, stress, trauma and injury. Myofascial release works with the superficial fascia which lies under the skin and connects to the deeper tissues. It can help to realign and improve mobility in the connective tissue, thereby allowing for greater ease and movement in the deeper tissues.

Reflexology:

Is a “focused pressure technique, usually directed at the feet or hands. It is based on the premise that there are zones and reflexes on different parts of the body that correspond to, and are relative to, all parts, glands, and organs of the body” (Ontario College of Reflexology) Reflexology works with the body’s nervous system, it provides a balance between the sympathetic (fight or flight) and the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous systems. It can help achieve the body’s state of homeostasis, the point in which the internal systems are working at a stable and balanced level, allowing the body to heal itself.
